We took the trips on an overnight camping trip as a pitstop on our way to Fond Du Lac. Piper and Atticus loved it, Mazie would not sleep in the tent, she walked around and unzipped the tent letting herself out, therefor earning herself a night in her carseat with Chris. We went to Jellystone campground, which was "a miracle" as Piper said, for the kids. They had a fun waterpark, game room and "hey rides" that was very nostalgic for Chris as he had made the same trip, to the same place as a wee one. It was a far cry from the more purist backpacking trips I partook in during college, but fun none the less.
